Don’t let them fool you. Mayor Matt Ryan, would have you believe that Bingladesh is one of the safest places to live. Even while they were counting the bodies at the American Civic Center the “Mayor” went on damage control with this misleading message.
The cops on the street are demmoralized. They have been without a contract for years. The chief, who emulates Chief Wiggum, is not respected, his personal issues are widely known. They have 140 cops and 7 on the “street” at any given time. Everything else is overtime making the 10000000$ budget all the more out of control. And still they need federal money to operate in the dangerous areas.

The mayor instead of addressing urban style blight and crimes, is put under a spell cast by the westside neighborhood association(affectionately known as the westside nazis) makes it his personal mission to see to the eviction of BU students from safer neighborhoods.

Safe streets, I think not.

This is a story about what happens when nothing is done by the authorities. Lawlessness grows and blight continues. Perfectly illustrated below. Something that won’t be reported on by the Breast and Bum Puritan.
It happened this monday night. This is a true story. Confirmed by 3 eyewitnesses. At around 7pm in front of 18 north street 5 blocks from the budding gingland of bingladesh(read Edwards street) an all out fight occurred. The cops were called because the 15-20 young black males in the middle of the street were screaming, swearing and beating the snot out of each other, you know the usual zulu lovefest.

Two crusiers show up with 4 police officers. The 2. Older cops got into the melee and tried to break it up they were by all accounts unsuccessful. The 2 young cops obviously disobeying orders, in a rare burst of real police work get out the batons and hit one of the fist throwers, slam him down and toss h¡m like a green bag into the crusier. They then leave the fight subdues. But not after one kid flees out the back with barefeet an underwear only who climbed several fences before he got back to the street(what made this kid so scared, could it be he was the one given the misson to flee with the pharmaceuticals? But in his underwear where did he hide them?).
End of story right? No the fight like a chronic hemmorhoid flares up again, suprised? Well wait til you here what happens next. The cops come back subdue the fight and then get this give the edward street boys an escort back to edwards street. It was a slow safe dance, cops on one side of the sidewalk in their cars traveling about 3 mph and the edward street gang on the other. As the boys were escorted home their loud self-congratulatory war chants really put the last nail in the coffin of hope that the BPD are actually interested in the people of this side of main street. Then again the cops hands are tied by this ryans little, wife beating drinking buddy named zidigusky, they have been told not to persue these guys but only to observe and keep the peace. Second the cops on the street have been demoralized to see this ass-kissing politician of a chief not stick up for them and then flout the law himself. The result read below…

How did the edwards street boys repay the cops for the police escort? They threw M-80′s, not firecrackers, M-80′s which when I went to high scool they were the best since supposedly they were a 1/4 stick of dynamite! True or not they were so loud as to confuse people living 5 blocks away that they were from Nyseg stadium!). Imagine If it was you throwing M-80′s at a cop car what would happen. Well I’ll tell you what happened…nothing. The cops just stayed in their car, obeying the orders from the administration. . This is the same m.o. Over and over again. While speaking to one eyewitness, he mentioned that the cops act as if they are afraid of these kids! And he should be they are zulu warriors afterall. He watched the eddy street boys shooting craps with money in hand right in front of the cops? I thought gambling was illegal, I thought throwing punches, M-80′s at cops would get you arrested, I thought selling dime bags was a sure way to get busted. The administration has told the cops loud and clear….back off! Perhaps they are a little bit too aware of statistics, so don’t arrest and the crime rate goes down. Great plan for a politician but not for the residents. One more thing. The next morning another fight breaks out at the same place. The cops are called and the cop on the morning shift had no idea what had happened last night. I guess there are so many of these altercations that they no longer interest the police staff, nor I guess are they relevant to them. But the ineffectiveness of the BPD administration in handling these delinquents is worrisome. Especially when the latin kings and M-13 decide to take on this sleepy-eyed town. What do we do then? If the administration can’t even take a practice run on this homegrown ging then what about when the out of town gangs decide to get in on the action? Never happen you think? No not here in Bingladesh!? I sugggest you do some research and think again.

1) It takes me about 5 minutes to get to work and about 15 minutes to go anywhere in the triple cities(Johnson City, Endicott and Bingladesh). Whenever I visit family down south it just takes forever to drive anywhere. There is no such thing as bumper to bumper traffic nor is there any rush hour to speak of. If you calculate time spent commuting long distances the time lost is immense. Perhaps one of reasons for light traffic is because everyone from Bingladesh moved to Charlotte.
2) Hardly any road construction, home construction or infrastructure improvement. Unlike other commities where there is a substantial reinvestment in these projects, we do not dred the summer season as others do for the inevitable construction. So your 5-15 minute commute anywhere is rarely interupted. We did have a revamping of 2 bridges and boy we are glad they are done. Lack of construction has for years contributed to peaceful days, nights weekends.

3) Another fantastic part about living here are the flowering trees and bushes during spring and early summer. We have gorgeous rhododendroms, azalas, crab-apples, cherrys, lilacs, roses and forsythia. Absolutely beautiful. Unfortuently this flowereing season is too brief.

4) Although the housing stock is decaying due to disproportionate taxes vrs actual value, there are beautiful victorians that have survived the urban renewal wrecking ball. Yes I know what some say is true that these gems are loosely interspersed amongst the rest of the remuddled and blighted town. Neverthless these eye candies are a sight to behold.
5) Bum county and for that matter Bingladesh have amazing parks and a great maintainence team that keeps them fresh, clean and tidy.

6) Garbage pick up is great. As long as you don’t mind buying green bags for 6$ a pack, anything and everything you put on the curb that doesn’t fit in one of the tissue thin greenies is picked up. These guys are the hardest working guys in the city!!!!!! Mega kudos to them and their hard work!!!!

7) Green rolling hills give anyone a chance to daydream, even those dwelling in the slums. The green exits in the fall leaving stunning colors.

8)Although not unique to Bingladesh, the sun when out gives an optimistic shine on everything. It’s glare can blind an otherwise careful observer to the increasing blight and thus I can say is a positive attribute.

9) The people. Most people, with the exception of the poopyticians, are friendly, somewhat helpful and always seem to mind their business, although this unwillingless to interfere is often a contributing factor to the blight, this self defeating attidtude is primarily a result of an ineffective, self congratulatory and self indulgent political and police presence.

10) Dirt cheap property. If you want a house for pennies here is where your wants are met with the reality of the dismal real estate market. True this is a double edged sword, but where in the world outside of Detroit can you pay 80000$ for a 4 bedroom house. One caveat before I go: it’s in Bingladesh.

There, you see, its not all bad these 10 points show extreme objectivity in my observations of Bingladesh. The real problem is the ruling political elite and the poverty based scam it has heaved on public policy for 2 decades. This is my main problem with Bingladesh. And I will without end harp on the ineffectiveness of such policy. If it doesn’t change…third world living will become the norm.
